Frequently Asked Questions
Considering Long Term Care is a huge decision and full of conflicting emotions and difficulties, we know this. We want to help you as you navigate this journey and make it as supported as possible. Please reach out to us with your questions, here are a few of the most common ones:
ARE ALL ROOMS SINGLE OCCUPANCY, OR ARE THEY SHARED?
We have both single occupancy and shared rooms at Qualicum Manor. As our health authority aims for only single occupancy rooms, we have an exemption from Island Health to support 13 shared rooms. Some folk love to share and others not so much.
If the person in a shared room wishes to move to a single occupancy or a change in their health status makes this an important part of care, we will work to ensure this occurs.
AS A VISITOR, WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COMING TO VISIT MY LOVED ONE?
At Qualicum Manor we pride ourselves on having a welcoming and inviting visiting policy. Visiting is open, just check in with nursing to be sure that your best time matches that of your loved one.
WHAT ARE YOUR INFECTION CONTROL GUIDELINES?
We follow all guidelines mandated by the Provincial Health Officer and our local health authority.
All visitors are asked to self assess for wellness and invite you to rebook your time if you are under the weather.
Please sign in and out at the front desk, this helps if we have an issue and it also helps us to know who is in the building in the case of fire or other emergency.
If we have any issues relating to infection that may interfere with visiting, we will contact you and share what’s going on.
What are your infection control guidelines?
We follow all guidelines mandated by the Provincial Health Officer and local health authority. We ask that visitors contact us to arrange a visiting time so that we can ensure appropriate screening can take place. All visitors and staff are screened (Covid health assessment/questionnaire) at our front door when the arrive/report to shift. We also require that everyone that enters the building be vaccinated according to the Provincial Health Officer mandate. Visitors and staff that are not vaccinated per Provincial Health Officer mandate, will not be permitted to enter the building. Regardless of immunization status, all visitors and staff are required to wear a mask.
